From the moment he could hold a crayon, Kelsy was sketching on walls, driven by an innate passion for creation that he believes all humans share. Even as a preschooler, upon seeing basic shapes, he dreamt of inventing a new one.
His journey has been one of experimentation, reverence, and study, delving deep into the techniques and philosophies of the masters, from the ancient civilizations of Greece and Egypt to the iconic works of Michelangelo and Boccioni. He believes no time period, place, or person is not worth learning from. Yet, his path wasn't without challenges. Battling perfectionism, he learned to release the fear of inadequacy, embrace every stage of growth, and the process of creation, not any momentary end result of that process.
The allure of sculpting captivated him when he crafted his first piece, a rendition of David's lips. It felt as if his drawings had sprung to life, a sensation so profound that he's been chasing it ever since. For him, the essence of a sculpture lies in its consciousness—the life that emanates from its forms, the emotions it evokes, and the stories it tells. He believes in the integration of every line, angle, and shape, playing with dissonance and consonance to evoke emotion, culminating in a unified theme celebrating consciousness itself.
His artistic expression isn't confined to just one medium. Whether it's drawing, music, painting, singing, or writing, he immerses himself in a symphony of creation, each form feeding his insatiable hunger for artistry.
His battles with mental health have only fortified his resolve, teaching him the value of impact. If his art can touch or inspire even a single soul, then his mission is accomplished. This philosophy extends to his teaching. Witnessing a student's growth, seeing them harness their potential and gain confidence, is a joy that parallels his love for creation. He firmly believes that with the right guidance, anyone can achieve their dreams. "You have what it takes. Just ask what you need to learn,” he often says.
His message is clear: Believe in your boundless potential. Align your life with your passion, find resonance with yourself and the universe, and you can achieve anything. He's not a natural born talent but a testament to years of accumulated knowledge and honed skills. In his words, "There's a reason caveman didn't sculpt the David. It's thousands of years of knowledge passed down through generations." And it's his mission to ignite that belief in others, to inspire them to create, to dream, and to achieve.
If he could send one message to the world it would be: “Believe in your unlimited capacity for growth and change. Find something to love and feel joy and pride with every step you take towards it, not just when you cross the “finish line”, because there isn’t one. And maybe you’ll discover you are in fact successful at every step because the process is the goal itself.”
